Council Officers Apply Common Sense Great Missenden 2009 Jan 19 11:30 (Mon)
We often complain about bureaucracy in Local Government and rile about officious application of rules. Here is a story that shows official can and do apply common sense when you get to the decision makers. The story involves the work experience placement of a boy called Jack studying at the Chesham High School. Jack is in Year 11 and about to take his GCSEs. It is normal practice to arrange work experience placements with local employers for Year 11 children normally lasting about two weeks to take place in July at the end of the academic year (More)

More on Chesham Pool Chesham 2008 Dec 14 02:49 (Sun)
I received the following in the following email from someone who read the article on Chesham Pool. Just read your "Chesham Pool Poor Customer Service? " note on your xchange site. My comments would be they have been doing that for years. It is just poor management. A couple of years ago I had this poor service every week for ages. Then one day I turned up on a week day. Said "hi", paid my money, asked "will it be this quite" was told "yes" and got changed. I started swimming (More)

CEO Cuts Days But Keeps Full Pay! Hertfordshire 2008 Oct 17 12:05 (Fri)
The BBC has posted a news item about the CEO of the Three Rivers District Council, Chief cuts days but keeps salary . The CEO, Dr Stephen Halls, is to cut his working days to four days a week but he will be allowed to keep his current salary. Even though the elected representatives have argued he should retain his full pay, we question Dr Halls's judgement in accepting the full salary. Surely, honour should dictate him should dictate he should accept a pro rata cut? With people being made redundant and working on short time due to the Economic Downturn, surely this cannot be justified (More)

The vaccine the Government has chosen to use is Cervarix. Girls have three injections over 6 months given by a nurse.  Things are afoot in Faversham ! Faversham 2008 Aug 21 17:49 (Thu)
I was having a coffee in one of my favourite hang out places (Cosgroves) when all of a sudden a lady who works in another coffee house (Havashams) asked to borrow loads of cups.  Chesham Pool - This is more like it! Chesham 2008 Aug 08 10:42 (Fri)
Chesham Pool - This is more like it!  I wrote a news item about a letter I received after complaining about the timetable at the Chesham Pool. The response from Karl Alexander was totally inadequate, full of platitudes with no commitment to take any action. In customer service terms, this particular letter was useless. Rather than pacifying me, it incensed me enough to prompt me to write again to Wycombe Leisure Limited copying to my two local councilors and the Chilterns District CEO. After this missive, I received a reply from Mark Young. This is a much better letter as it shows what action is being taken (More)

Chesham Pool - Poor Customer Service? Chesham 2008 Aug 02 13:17 (Sat)
Chesham Pool - Poor Customer Service?  On Friday 31st July 2008, we went up to the Chesham Leisure Centre (CLC) for a swim. There were five of us; three adults and two teenage children. What was advertised as 4 lanes available for public turned out to be only 1 lane. So the five of us were using one lane. After half an hour 3 other people turned up. They were also under the impression that there were 4 public lanes. So, we had the ludicrous situation of 8 of us sharing one lane in the pool. I spoke to the poolside staff who apologised for the mix up (More)
